How to Listen to Your Intuition: TRUST

In this ‘How to listen to your intuition’ series, we’ve looked at the role of the head versus the heart and also to pay attention to what your body is telling you. Today, we will explore the idea of trust, specifically trusting your instinct or intuition.

As highlighted in this post how to trust your mother’s intuition on my other blog, A Mother’s Intuition, there are a few steps in building trust when it comes to intuition (mother’s or otherwise):

  1. Write it down.
  2. Feel from your heart/gut instinct.
  3. Don’t worry that it doesn’t make logical sense.

Practice and time are also important. Think about when you first meet someone. You need to build trust. You might give them a little, see how it works, then decide whether or not you want to give a little more.

Try this approach with your intuition. Give your intuition a go by starting small then build up to the bigger things. Remember though, following your intuition doesn’t guarantee the outcome you want.

Trusting your intuition is also linked to trusting the process of life. A faith, if you will, that there is something bigger than you which is taking care of all the details. This can be an incredibly difficult point for some people to reach, especially when we are always taught to be in control.

How do you loosen this grip on control?

  1. Meditate!
  2. Listen to your heart and feel a response – don’t think!
  3. Challenge your beliefs and expectations of yourself and the world around you – are they real? Are they limiting you?

With time and practice, you can learn to flow with the process of life and trust not only your intuition but that you are exactly where you need to be now. This is a process, not a quick fix.
