The Ultimate Spiritual Self-Care Practice
I recently polled my Instagram community about your spiritual self-care practices and the results were quite alarming, as 93% of you told me you wished you spent more time on your own spiritual self-care.
When asked how much time you currently dedicated to your spiritual self-care, most of you indicated it was "sporadic, if ever", followed by "a few minutes a day, if I'm lucky", then an even smaller portion saying "maybe an hour a week".
Perhaps not surprisingly, you said time and consistency were the biggest challenges keeping you from your practice.
And, I totally get it! It can be so easy, especially for women, to allow other commitments, people and expectations to take priority over ourselves... especially when our minds are left to run the show, without the input of our hearts.
So what if we could make spiritual self-care a lot easier to embed as part of your days, weeks and months —no matter how much time you have at your disposal.
Put it this way: If you shower and brush your teeth daily —and I hope you do!! —then you have the basic time requirements for spiritual self-care.
We will explore a simple way to build the ultimate spiritual self-care practice… and if you’re looking for support, guidance and tools to create your own, be sure to check out my latest program, 90 days of the Guidance Practice – a practice for deeper connection and higher manifestation.
What is spiritual self-care
You may be more familiar with other self-care practices, like bubble baths and massage, or my favourite, float tanks. Self-care is really about ensuring you have taken care of your physical, mental and emotional bodies… even if the basics are just showering and brushing your teeth as I joked earlier.
But it’s not just our physical, mental and emotional bodies that need our care and attention, so does our spiritual body.
Spiritual Self-care, then, is about nourishing spirit and soul, True Self. I see it as a way of connecting to our intuition and Spiritual Support Team (SST), spirit guides and the like. It can be about maintaining our energetic health, keeping our energy centres clean and clear, and allowing ourselves to come into alignment with our true self, and our true path and purpose.
This consistent spiritual self-care of connecting with guidance and maintaining your life force energy and energetic health is what I like to call The Guidance Practice.
The best spiritual self-care practices
I'm going to guess that you know there are things you could be doing to help you on your intuitive or spiritual journey and as part of a regular spiritual self-care practice.
We know we 'should' meditate.
We know we 'should' reflect and tune into our own guidance.
We know we 'should' create moments of stillness, space and silence.
Are you nodding along?
And, do you keep nodding when I say that somehow it can be difficult to keep at it consistently? (For me too!!)
Just because we logically, or even intuitively, know we 'should' be doing something that it is beneficial to and for us, doesn't mean we always act on it. And in that resistance and avoidance is a massive clue — if you're willing to look at it.
If you’ve been around my work long enough, you won’t be surprised when I suggest Journaling, Oracle cards and meditation as the best spiritual self care practices. But there are other suggestions when it comes to the best activities for spiritual self-care that may surprise you.
Grounding, clearing and protecting your energy
Supporting and balancing your chakras and energy centres, whether in meditation, or with a practitioner. Personally I love reiki and working with Kerri Pietsch
Laughter, changting and sound healing
Yoga – which works on energy centres
Having fun – this is one of the tips in my 10 Tips for Building Intuition.
Spiritual self-care examples
So, here are some specific spiritual self-care examples:
Journaling for spiritual growth is the best thing I ever did as part of my own spiritual self-care, particularly automatic writing and interpreting my signs and symbols.
I have additional blog posts and resources on the types of journaling you can do as part of your spiritual self care and I include several of these in my Head and Heart Digital Journal.
Journaling for spiritual growth is a cornerstone in the 90 Days to the Guidance Practice, and I guide you through the prompts and techniques – as well as what intuitive guidance we can gather and act on from them.
Energy forecasting for guidance - and energetic heads up of what’s in store
When our SST can guide us on the energy ahead for the collective, and our own life path, we have specific information about what to focus our spiritual self-care on and when.
For example, we are guided to pay attention to our Inner Child… so as part of my daily guidance practice, I’d be using my Inner Child meditation, asking my Inner Child for guidance and acting on all the ways my Inner Child wants to explore and have fun.
Working with your oracle cards can allow you to create your own forecasts
Not only for energy forecasts, but to connect with your intuition and SST for specific guidance and actions you can take for you own self care…asking questions for your lessons, purpose and healing provides very specific intuitive action steps for your own spiritual self-care.

A spiritual morning routine
I’ve shared how my own daily practice has ebbed and flowed depending on my life stage and other commitments.
Right now, my morning routine is brief – it’s setting an intention in my heart for the day, which will be aligned to my overall intention for the quarter – or 90 days I’m working with – and then, I will pull an oracle card for guidance on what to be aware of or working on throughout the day. This card sits right below my computer all day, to keep it front and centre.
I then plan my day with both my head and heart. I have logical, specific plans for the day, like recording my podcast, or showing up for a client reading. And I also have heart-based intuitive action steps too, like making a particular phone call, or completing a particular meditation.
Because I work for myself, I weave this into my work set up each day, but I have also enjoyed stages where I have had the luxury of 30-60 minutes of a morning to journal a lot longer, or complete a longer meditation every morning. Nowadays, this usually happens during my work day, or in the evenings.
In the 90 Days of the Guidance Practice, I walk you through this in far more detail, along with which meditations and prompts to use at which points. I also show you how to build in a daily evening routine, and then how this compounds over time from a daily routine, for just a few minutes, to a rhythm of weekly, monthly, quarterly and even annual practices.
Such small self-care rituals compound over time, to create a truly guided life – and one which is revealing your path, purpose and your own self-guided spiritual self-care.
Benefits of a spiritual self care practice
So, why is all of this so beneficial? Well, there are a few key reasons I recommend a regular guidance practice and spiritual self care:
Build trust in yourself and in guidance
Self awareness, growth
In-built lessons
Path & purpose becomes clearer
Clears energy, clarifies desires, attracts opportunities
Creates moments of stillness, space and silence – reduce stress, calm and groundedness.
How to create a regular spiritual self-care practice
It took many years of trial and error, but as a mentor working with thousands of people, I’ve realised we must be realistic and have a practice that works, but that can also change with us.
